New beads and design improvements
Our latest shipment of Baltic amber beads has arrived from Eastern Europe. We import direct and guarantee our Baltic amber to be natural and genuine. Here is an anklet and a few necklaces made up with the darker amber ...
I’ve also gotten in some Baltic amber pebbles as seen in two of these necklaces here ...
Adult graded beads: I’m using Baltic amber nuggets graded for adult jewellery as they tend to be more attractive and a better size.
Un-soldered safety jump-ring: I can make necklaces with this feature on request. Therefore, if the necklace is tugged, pulled or yanked there is more chance of the jump-ring pulling open, and less chance of a breakage requiring restringing. Don't forget this is real jewellery and can break, so please treat with tender love and care.
Standard jewellery clasps: Standard clasps used on our anklets are now available with our necklaces, along with our traditional safety pearl clasp, and magnetic pop-apart clasps. All sterling silver (.925).

Quality Comparision
A well worn one year old ChookMook necklace, alongside a near new "imported" teething necklace that broke almost instantly. The poor mother was referred to me to have it restrung. Needless to say she was thrilled with the end results (see bottom pic).
Here it is after a ChookMook makeover ... hand knotted on 100% silk with a sterling silver safety clasp. Sterling silver (.925) is the traditional precious metal of choice for Baltic amber jewelry.

Sterling Silver Clasp Types for ChookMook Amber Teething Necklaces
Here are the two types of sterling silver clasps I use on my amber teething necklaces...no plastic clasps here, and certainly no glue!!!
Safety Clasp
As traditionally used with precious gemstones when handknotted on silk. Very commonly used with pearls. Clasp is squeezed to open, and one end slides out. If accidently opened, it catches on a safety bar first to prevent losing the necklace.
Magnetic Clasp
Please note this is a demo necklace so has been strung on white silk not the normal golden silk that the sunburst necklaces are strung on. Magnet's are press fit into place, not glued. Are strong enough for everyday wear, but if tugged sufficicently will pull open. To prevent the integrity of the magnets, when opening this clasp it is recommend that you slide the ends apart.
Please note, photos are not to scale.

SUNBURST: Amber Teething Necklace
Sunburst Amber Teething Necklace: Genuine Baltic Amber nuggets hand knotted on 100% golden coloured silk. Fastens with a sterling silver safety clasp. Also available with a "pop-apart" magnetic sterling silver clasp. Made in New Zealand.
Disclaimer: This is "real jewellery" and should be treated just like a string of pearls. It should not be worn by any infant or child unsupervised, and should not be gummed or mouthed by the wearer. Inspect the necklace often. If the silk starts to degrade it maybe time to restring. The magnetic clasp should not be worn by, or near anyone with a pacemaker.

AMBER TEETHING NECKLACES by ChookMook
Why Amber Teething Necklaces by ChookMook are superior to imported necklaces sold on TradeMe...
- I use genuine pure Baltic Amber nuggets … not chips or pressed beads (amber pieces glued and pressed into a bead shape) and my amber has not been heat treated to improve clarity.
- They are handmade in New Zealand with quality components. No plastic clasps, and only the best quality standard sterling silver clasp, or a sterling silver magnetic clasp. I searched high and low for a magnetic clasp that does not require glue to hold the magnet in place - reducing the risk of the glue wearing off and the magnet falling out and being swallowed (*GULP*). My magnets have been press fit into place.
- They are an appropriate length (approx 12″) to ensure the majority of children shouldn’t be able to fit the necklace in their mouth while it’s been worn. Many of the pictures on TradeMe show kids with the necklaces hanging halfway down their chests.
- They are strung on 100% silk. None of the imported necklaces specify what they are strung on.
- Have been handmade by a jewellery artist paid a fair wage (aka me).
- I guess you could say I’ve managed to combine the best of both modern and traditional jewellery methods with my amber teething necklaces.
